Two men lynched and their bodies burnt after the killing of two boda boda operators in Mukono on Thursday night

MUKONO | The price of two lives was two lives, too, after an irate mob in Mukono hunted down and lynched suspected boda boda robbers.

The two suspected robbers, whose identities had not yet been established by the time of writing this story, were killed and their bodies burnt beyond recognition.

They were accused of killing two boda boda operators from Samuka village in Katoogo Parish in Mukono at around midnight on Thursday.

Bodies of Richard Mawanda, 56, and Sande Semanda, 35, were discovered in the sand mining pond. Their motorcycles had been taken.

Irate residents mounted a hunt for the assailants and took the law into their own hands. They rounded up two youths accused of involvement in the killing of their colleagues.

Bodies of the two lynched suspects were burnt beyond recognition.

Residents at Katoogo attributed to the murder of the boda boda operators to insecure roads which are bushy.

They also decried lack of a police post in the area, saying it is exacerbating crime.

Nama Sub-county chairman John Bosco Isabirye condemned the unfortunate loss of the residents, and cautioned riders to avoid transporting strangers at night.

Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the shocking murder and retribution killings, saying the bodies were taken to Mulago Hospital.

The four deaths bring the number of people killed in the area to five in a space of one week, after a toddler of one, Shanal Sserunkuma, was beheaded in a suspected ritual killing and his body was dumped in a pit latrine.
